Benefits of dollhouses:
Dollhouses are a big investment and take up a lot of space. Here are a few reasons why it is worth it.
It’s a safe space to help kids work through life’s issues & express emotion. Learn to manage feelings of anger, frustration, anxiety, anticipation, excitement & love, in a controlled environment.
Practice life skills. - Prepare food, tidy the house and make your bed. Practice makes perfect and builds confidence.
Promote fine motor skills. - Have you ever tried balancing a doll on a chair without knocking down everything around it. This takes skill!
Develop vocabulary skills. –Kids overhear new words that they do not know. Dolls allow them to experiment using these words in different contexts, until it makes sense. Playing dolls with friends also helps them learn how to communicate ideas.
Practice their problem-solving skills and spatial awareness. – Learn all about three dimensions, scale, and proportion. This can improve math and science skills later in life.
Learn classification skills. - Organize what goes in each room and where the rooms fit in the house. Choose from different sets and colourways to inject personality in your home.
Hi, I am Nerine Steenkamp, the creator of Topsy Tuis.
Topsy Tuis was started in early 2022 as a passion project with big dreams.
I studied Architecture at the University of the Free State, but always dreamed of having a small business & working with my hands. After University I pursued various creative endeavors. This included making wedding invitations, doing woodwork, teaching microbotics, creating a puppet theatre for online church, & making crafts and activities for the children’s church. All of this culminated in a unique set of skills needed for making dollhouse furniture with extra realism & design flair. On this journey I have learned that no matter how much we struggle in life, God helps shape us into exactly who we need to be at the right time. I believe that Topsy Tuis can put smiles on kids’ and parents’ faces & I am here for it.
I love colour, design, anything floral, my 4 dogs & 1 cat. None of this would have been possible without the help of my husband & his exceptional skills to keep me focused, organized, & motivated.

Before you start shopping?
Kids start becoming interested in dolls and dollhouses from age 4. As they develop, the way they interact with the dolls changes and stays relevant up to age 12. Our houses in particular are a bit more advanced than a beginner house and is more suited for ages 5-6 and up.
All our furniture and houses are designed slightly smaller than scale 1:6. This means that any doll that is typically around 30cm tall, will fit perfectly. This includes Barbie, Stacy, Rainbow High and all their friends.
Yes! We use Courier Guy to ship anywhere in South Africa.
Unfortunately, not at this moment. The colour and style choices on the website are all that is available. We do it this way to always ensure we have stock and can ship things out as quick as possible. We do, however, frequently change the materials and colours we use. So, check back in a bit for new options.
Products on the website are in stock and ready to ship out. You will receive your order within 5-7 business days of order confirmation.
Our shop is updated frequently with new styles to keep up with trends and stay fresh. We make every item by hand in small batches and sometimes certain fabrics are not available to us anymore. Moral of the story is, if you like it, buy it, because it might not be there anymore if you wait.

We have thought long and hard about how children play and interact. We designed our dollhouses to be open on both sides so that multiple children can play together at the same time. Children face each other and can make eye contact while interacting with the same part of the house. This also allows the dollhouse to become an excellent room-divider in a space.
